Sports writer Jon Colman scooped the regional writer prize at the British Sports Journalism Awards for the eighth time.

Jon won the regional sports journalist of the year category at the Sports Journalists’ Association British Sports Journalism Awards.

Judges praised Jon for his ‘enjoyable, engaging and insightful’ coverage of the League Two club for Newsquest Cumbria, which includes the News & Star and Cumberland News.

Jon said: “I’d just like to thank the judges, the SJA, my colleagues and the readers that put up with the gibberish I come out with most days.

“One person to thank more than anything is the person that puts up with the ridiculous lives we lead in this room, the places we go, the hours it puts in.

“I think our nearest and dearest put up with more than we could ever ask, so this is for my wife, Tess.”

Joy Yates, Acting Editor, Cumbria (North), said: “Jon is a talented, dedicated sports writer and totally deserves this incredible recognition.

“And to receive this accolade eight times is testament to his current, relevant, knowledgeable and engaging content which is followed and respected by our audiences as well as our industry.

“We are all very proud of Jon’s achievement.”
